Travelling Abroad and ATA Carnets
Shift 4 has a wealth of experience supporting shoots overseas. We can pack equipment to meet your specific requirements and to help minimise airline excess baggage fees. We can also provide detailed, itemised equipment lists with weights, measurements and values if ATA Carnets are required.
An ATA Carnet is an international Customs document which allows the temporary importation of professional equipment to countries which are part of the ATA Carnet system. Without an ATA Carnet it would be necessary to go through each country’s Customs procedures for the temporary admission of goods.
An ATA Carnet provides a guarantee to the Customs of a foreign country into which the goods are temporarily imported that all duties, taxes etc will be paid to them if the conditions under which they allow these into the country are breached. The issuing Chamber must receive an equivalent security from the Carnet user.
A carnet must be presented to Customs each time the goods are imported, exported or transit through the country.
Please see the latest list of countries here.
For Customs purposes the EU is treated as a single territory.
The cost of a carnet is based on a percentage of the equipment value, countries visited and the duration.

Please note that Shift 4 usually requires a minimum of 48 hours to prepare carnet information without incurring additional express arrangement fees.
Please also note that the relevant equipment insurance must be provided by the customer for overseas travel of hired items, in accordance with our Terms & Conditions.
Shift 4 can provide all information needed for a carnet but do not complete carnets themselves. You may like to use a specialist company that provide ATA Carnet Preparation Services:
