The Sony PMW-F5 CineAlta Digital Cinema camera features a 8.9 megapixel (effective) Super35mm image sensor capable of capturing 2K and HD internally using Sony’s XAVC codec onto SxS Pro +memory cards and 4K and 2K RAW to an optional bolt-on Sony AXS-R5 external recorder.
The Sony PMW-F5’s superior, super sampled pictures have higher contrast, rich colour reproduction and greater clarity. The PMW-F5 offers robust built in recording modes, all with vibrant 4:2:2 colour plus amazing precision of 16 bit linear RAW 2K/4K recording and high speed shooting at up to 150fps (or 240fps RAW). The Sony PMW-F5 also features 14 stops of dynamic range applicable to both RAW and XAVC recording (in SLog mode) for truly cinematic rendering of highlights and shadows.
The Sony PMW-F5 is designed to accommodate a wide variety of lenses. The PMW-F5 natively features an FZ mount and Shift 4’s PMW-F5 kit includes a PL mount adapter as standard. The Sony PMW-F5 is small and lightweight and it’s modular design allows different configurations for different jobs – and shots. The PMW-F5 is set up to take a variety of viewfinders. The shoulder rig provides for comfortable hand-held and shoulder-mounted shooting.
Designed with significant input from cinematographers, the Sony PMW-F5 features an intuitive interface for a range of controls. Menus are no more than three layers deep and direct, one touch access to key shooting parameters and assignable buttons make for ease of operation. The Operator’s side of the PMW-F5 holds an LCD screen which displays basic camera settings including frame rate, shutter speed, colour temperature ISO sensitivity and gamma. The Sony PMW-F5 also benefits from numerous connections to suit your workflow.
Shift 4’s fleet of PMW-F5’s include all features provided by firmware updates 4.1.
