KOWA Anamorphic lenses are, for most people, gold standard for vintage anamorphics. They were produced up until the 1970s and have always been popular because of their small size and light weight (making them ideal for handheld, Steadicam or drone set ups) and the low contrast look they provide with beautiful flares in warm colours (as opposed to the standard blue flares of other anamorphic lenses).
These days, good condition original KOWA anamorphics are rare, mainly because their fragile mechanics mean they haven’t stood the test of time. At this year’s BSC Expo, P+S Technik were promoting their new fully rehoused KOWA anamorphic lenses, currently available in the classic 4 focal lengths: 40mm, 50mm, 75mm and 100mm and with wide angle and 135mm to join the set at a later date.
The German company are offering these lenses with the original mechanism completely replaced. They are also equipped with more durable parts whilst keeping the same form factor. The stability of the mechanism is maintained giving greater longevity and reducing the need for frequent servicing. Spare mechanical as well as glass parts are also available if needed.
We’ve got the set of four on order and are awaiting details of the further two. We’re excited to continue to grow our range of vintage lenses with these quality additions.
