What is High Definition?

High Definition (HD) is a video format of unprecedented high quality that warrants favourable comparison to Super 16mm and even 35mm.

With Sony HDCAM format, moving pictures are digitally recorded at 1920 pixels horizontally by 1080 pixels vertically, thus giving a resolution comparable to 2k film resolution. (see below)

The very least that is needed is an HD camera body (we use Sony F750 and F900 camcorders) but apart from this the rest of the equipment can be the same as is used in a normal video shoot.
Standard Definition (SD) lenses and monitors can be used.
This of course is not utilising the HD camera to it’s fullest potential and mistakes in focus or image quality may be made by only having SD monitors on location. Proper monitoring on location can only be done on HD monitors, as the level of detail can only properly be seen on HD monitors.
Because of the superior quality of the HD picture only HD lenses can fully do justice to the enhanced image quality of the format.
